RYA COASTAL SKIPPER PRACTICAL COURSE
Course Aims
To provide coaching in skippering techniques for coastal and
offshore passages
This practical course is run from our base, at Douglas, Isle of Man, with
longer passages than for the earlier courses, over 5 days.
The Isle of Man, with its amazing scenery and sheltered
waters, is an ideal location

Ability to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day or night

Passage planning
Preparation for sea
Pilotage day and
night
Passage making
Advanced close quarters yacht handling under
sail and power
Skippering in adverse weather conditions
Managing emergency
situations
Fully Inclusive (berthing fees, waterproofs, all food
whilst on yacht)

Commercial Endorsement
Students may also wish to gain commercial endorsement by taking
the MCA Coastal Skipper assessment in addition to the RYA qualification.
This involves an external MCA/RYA
moderator for the assessment. We can arrange this for you.

cost of this external assessment is to be paid direct to the RYA by the student, in addition to the cost of the course and
hire of the Yacht during the assessment.
