Course Aims

To introduce students, aspiring to be Skippers, to basic pilotage, boat handling and managing a yacht

This practical course is run from our base, at Douglas, Isle of Man, over 5 days. The Isle of Man, with its amazing scenery and sheltered waters, is an ideal location

Ability After Course

Skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day

Pre Course Knowledge

Up to level of Day Skipper shore based and comp crew practical sailing ability

Preparation of Yacht for Sea

Deck work

Navigation (fixing, GPS, Waypoints, DR and EP, tidal heights, buoyage, course to steer)

Pilotage (day and night)

Meteorology

Rules of road

Maintenance,

Marine Diesel Engine Maintenance

Managing emergency situations

Yacht handling under power and sail
